2002 Explorer Keyless Entry Combo Location

I know this is getting redundant on the board; but here goes: I just purchased a used 2002 Explorer XLT. The book says to look on the computer control module for keyless entry code. I cannot find the module and have not seen a definitive answer on the message board. Anyone help? I have been by the dealer twice and the "machine" was down both times.

It is under the glovebox on the passenger side just above the kickboard. You can't miss it, as it is in the same area as the fuel shutoff switch. Well, at least that's where I think it is

Look for the fuel shutoff switch, and you've got it.

I looked on that side and there are two lables. One is on the side of a gray Motorola box, and there numbers like date code, serial number, etc but none of those work......If I am sitting in the passenger seat is it down and dead ahead or on the right or left side?

On the right hand side. I've never taken mine down to see what codes are on it, but I'm told that the keypad code is printed on it.

Hey guys, was just under the dashes of our, new, used 2002 Explorer XLT,I did not see any code under there,I saw the fuel reset button,do you mean you have to take the screw/bolt out of the unit that is near it ,to find this code. I gotta feeling NOBODY really know's where this code is,of course the dealers say's you have to stick it on the computer,PS,whats the cost of that ????

There is a little white box there with a bolt on one end. but no sticker anywhere on the box. The other two boxes that have stickers list the following: Box 1)"Bosch" Assembled in Mexico, and some odd numbers - none of which work on the keyless entry. Box 2)list the following: Ford Part #:......, Vendor #:....., Motorola Model #:....., Date Code:....., Serial #:....., and a odd final number letter mix. What am I missing?

I just purchased an 02 Mountaineer. I too was told the code was under the glove box by the dealer. I found mine on the drivers door pillar. Just open the door look on the pillar between the drivers and back door. There was a white sticker that said something about security on it, and the larger 5 digits was the code. Hope this is the same on Explorers.

I am sure Big buick is right on the location of the module[by passenger rear seat],someone on another forum said, you can pop the molding that holds the rear seat belt, then gently pull back the lower molding,by the door seal and see the module,it looks like its by the rear wheelwell.I got that far, but can not see any numbers by or near the module.Phil

I did some more research and found that there are 2 locations for the central security module depending on the build date. The central security module(built before 03/2002) is located on the pass rear quarter panel between the back door and the 1/4 glass window, just below the window line. After 03/2002 they call it the Vehicle Security Module and it is located on the dash panel behind the radio and heater controls.
The keyless entry keypad can be used to unlock the driver door or lock and unlock all the doors and release the liftgate window glass. It also lights the keypad lamp, allows one user code to be programmed and issues illuminated entry on/off requests to the instrument cluster when locking and unlocking.

The permanent entry code is located on the owner code card in the glove compartment. It is electronically accessible using a diagnostic tool and is labeled on the central security module (early build) or vehicle security module (late build).
