I have an 86 ...its a farm truck..i often use it to move round bales. I would like to put some better springs on the rear especially. Wondering what year models I can use .....thinking about going to a pick n pull.....also thinking about trying to fit a coil type spring up there as well. ....if anyone Jas ideas I'm all ears. Thanks.
The old school way to do it was buy another set of used leafs, toss the top ones and add the rest to essentially double em up. I did this on a half ton once upon a time and a loaded car hauler would only squat it an inch or so. Worked well for what I need it at the time.
Beware though it'll ride like hell without a load, and you'll also need new ubolts. I bought some from rough country a few years back, $60 for a set shipped, your milage may vary price wise but I felt like it was pretty fair compared to some places..
But if you're 2wd a set of f250 ubolts will be longer because they had a 2" block, f350 had a four inch. So maybe you can snag some used bolts at the junkyard. Be sure to bring a wire brush and plenty of wd40 because they'll fight you the whole way most likely.
I'm assuming that this farm truck isn't driven on the highway? If it still is I would recommend a set of air bags. Or new ubolts if you go that route with the extra springs.
I'm not real sure, I wanna say 80-97, but for sure I'd say 80-early85, late85-86, 87-91, 92-97 will definitely interchange within there similar year models
80-early85 may be the same as 85-86, but in mid 85 Ford went to the Sterling axle instead of the Dana and I'm unsure if the leafs changed or not..
If your local yards don't have anything you could try car-part.com
Ok. I was hoping something much newer would interchange. I expect anything at my local pick n pull will be wore out coming from an older truck.
In my opinion it's probably better that they are if you're going to stack two sets. I doubt you want 1.5-2ton suspension. Two wore out sets should net you 1-1.25 ton, about what an f450 has.
