What is this engine sound?
There’s a high-speed, high pitched rattling sound coming from somewhere in my engine. It’s a very thin sound, thinner than lifters would make I’m thinking. It’s too fast to be a ticking sound. And it doesn’t sound like a hissing sound like a vacuum leak. I do not recall hearing the sound prior to the mechanic replacing my oil pan and gasket last week. This is a 351 Windsor 5.8 engine on a 1996 Ford truck. I checked the PCV valve and it seems to be firmly seated. Sounds like it’s more on the driver side of the engine than the passenger side

Tough to diagnose by sound over the internet, but, yeah, that does not sound healthy. I'd remove the serp belt and see if the noise goes away. If not, it's internal; if yes, it's an accessory or idler that's going out.
