Fuel System - What is this?

This cylindrical black thing intersects the fuel lines from the tank behind the seat and the tank under the bed. I put in a new fuel filter, but don’t know what the black thing is. Some sort of pump? filter?

From 77 F150

I would like to think that but .....
How does it switch between the 2 tanks if the inlet from both are on the same side?
Or is it just the way the picture was taken and it is 2 ports, 1 behind the other?

I was thinking the same thing. To be a selector switch it would have to have 2 (or 3) inlets and 1 outlet. This looks like 1 in, 1 out.

One way to find out I suppose. Flip the control switch on the dash and see if it clicks!

Can I assume that the line with the filter goes to the carb? If so, then 2 in (2 tanks) and one out to carb. Unless I didn't read post correctly.... Which is entirely possible.
Oh,I see what you're saying now.... It WOULD be strange that both inlets are on the same side. Hmm.

IF the valve is genuine Ford, it will have an ID engineering number marked on it. The selector switch is located in the heater control panel.

1975/79 F100/350 with Dual Fuel Tanks:

D5TZ-9189-B (replaced D5TZ-9189-A - D8TZ-9189-A - D9TZ-9189-A) .. Fuel Tank Selector Valve & Solenoid Assy - THREE ports / Obsolete

Marked: D5TB-9F271-AA or D8TB-9F271-AA or D9TB-9F271-AA
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
D5TZ-9A050-A .. Fuel Tank Selector Switch - 5 terminals / Marked: D5TB-9A050-AA / Obsolete

This switch switches the dash fuel gauge and the fuel tanks from one tank to the other.

1977/79 Stylesides have fuel doors.

It is directly below the new fuel filter which is directly below the cab tank, and just before the intersection of both lines. So it could be the cutoff to the cab tank, but then it seems like the bed tank would always be active.

Also, it doesn’t look like the replacement valves I find on the internet.

So now I’m stumped.

there are no markings left on this thing. It looks like an in line fuel pump I found on line. It has a wire to it. Could that be it?

If it doesn't match up to the info I posted, it's aftermarket.

Genuine Ford valve has 3 ports and is mounted on the cross member, the selector switch is located in the heater control panel.

Just asking but how does a 77 F150 have a fuel tank in the cab? I thought that was just a highboy thing until 77.5? I'm confused.

Who said anything about an in-cab tank? Dual fuel tanks are usually the mid-ship and aft axle variety, though an in-cab tank with one or the other was possible thru February 1977.

IMO your truck came with one fuel tank, another was later swapped in, why the genuine Ford 3 port valve doesn't match what your truck has.

You also never mentioned the location of the fuel tank selector switch. Aftermarket would not be located in the heater control panel.

not sure. Cab came with the truck, had the same VIN posted on the cab as the frame. both are77 F150. Bed was replaced with 79 bed (found the tag) and had a tank under it.

The 3 port valves appears to be attached to the frame near the front axel. My bed has two gas tank ports, but one is blanked off. My bed is 79, my frame and cab are 77. There is a 19 gallon tank in the cab behind the seat, and a 19 gallon tank at the rear of the bed. This looks like it could be an in line pump of some sort.
