Tow mirrors

I HATED the stock mirrors on my truck. The size of the mirror was ok, it was the small blind spot mirror in the corner. So I got these tow mirrors from Amazon for 200.00. I like the size and they are heated and have all the operations of my stock mirrors. What I don't like is 1. They shake a little when driving and 2. They have some wind noise over 40mph. I have read that you can put insulation inside and seal all gaps with silicone.

Stock mirror

Aftermarket tow mirror.

Had the same problem with my Chinese knockoffs. P. side was great but the D. side has a gap at the top of the triangle piece. I siliconed it, made it a little better. Only other problem I have had is they sun fade really quick, but nothing some back to black can't fix. Think I've only ever seen maybe 3 '17+ F150s with these mirrors and never one that is towing. Put a set on my '09 F150 as well.

I sent a request to return them because of these issues and they want me to silicone and put weather stripping in them to block the wind. They said they would compensate something back to me. Ok I will try it I guess. I dont think the mirror moving really bothers me because you just glance in the mirrors from time to time. You really use them backing up so they dont move then. I guess they work and if I can get the wind noise to stop they'll be ok. I do tow a travel trailer so it will be nice to not have to deal with the slip ons.

We have the factory towing mirrors on ours. I specifically kept looking for those mirrors when truck shopping as they were a have to have feature. They make towing so much easier and safer and appreciate them every time we use the truck.

These kinds of reviews are why, when I finally convince my wife to upgrade her stock mirrors to tow mirrors, we're just going to buy legit Ford ones.

Some aftermarket stuff is good, but not all of it.

+1, it was a must-have item on the truck I bought. Wouldn't consider a truck without them.

I purchased my from Fairway Ford in Ohio online. I waited a few months until the price came down then pulled the trigger. The price of the mirrors will depend on all the functions you need/want and what the wiring harness in the truck will support. My XLT only has heated glass, and power adjust glass. Not power telescope or folding options. I paid $589.00 I believe. With shipping, total was $629.00. Took approx 5 minutes each side to install.

If you want all the functions that the truck would have had, like power telescoping, Blind Spot etc, it's goin to cost an absolute fortune to buy. If you want the "basic" XL mirrors, it's much more affordable. Call around to a few dealerships.

Yup - was given great advice here on finding a truck with them. One of the reasons we finally just ended up ordering our truck - we have a Super Duty so have the large tow mirrors and know what a difference it makes.

cwglee: Ours is a Lariat and you are an even higher trim level - you likely have the puddle lights, spot lights, power extend and fold like ours has, so yours will be more $s. I've seen folks quote prices here around $1K each for the fully loaded ones + plus install if you aren't doing it yourself. The insult is it was only a couple hundred more to get the tow mirrors instead of the standard ones...

Good luck,
Scott

ok stupid question, having the "limited" trim, can I assume the truck has the ability to manage all the available options on a set of towing mirrors?
I would indeed want the BLIS and telescoping abilities. I suppose to be sure I'm getting the proper mirror's it's best to just call the dealership and ask what I need and how much they'll rake me over the coals to get it?

Well, I've decided to pack these up and send them back. I'm Just not happy with them. Maybe I will look for a good deal on the ford mirrors or a used pair. I'm not okay with buying something and then loading it up with caulk and weather stripping to TRY and get the product I expected.

Yep. Just give them your VIN and hope you are sitting down for the quote. My guess is $2500 for the pair + installation
