I have a 1991 F150 XLT Lariat and wanted to install some LED bulbs.
I know that newr vehicles without facotry equipped LED bulbs have a "hyperflash" when installing LED bulbs because the signal travels at different speeds. I wanted to put some in my truck and tested it without a resistor, it did not hyperflash, but only stay lit the entire time. I currently have LED headlights, and reverse lights since they do not need to flash. This happened only on brake lights, and turn signals when the blinker was triggered, to that side of the vehicle. Would a resistor still work for my truck? Is there some other component that I would need?
Load resistors on the rear brake light circuits will make it flash correctly. The reason it didn't flash is the LEDs can't pull enough current to make the bimetal strip in the flasher unit heat up and open the circuit. An LED flasher might fix the problem but load resistors, one on each side in the brake light circuits will fix the issue.
