Engine hoists

I am wondering if there is a preferred or better style of engine hoist that accommodates a 6.0 size engine?
i am looking on Craigslist and Facebook. See some pretty lightweight models. There are 2 ton versions from Harbor Freight as well.
I am opinion to suggestions.

The HF 2ton has worked well for me. I added a HF small 12v winch so I could work by myself and raise and lower the engine. The engine comes in at 900+ lbs, the 2T easily handles it.

I used to have two at work, both were nice and both way more money then the HF.

The 6.0 is not a lightweight, I would recommend a robust version. In my experience, the manufacturer's specifications are very "optimistic", choose a number bigger if in doubt.
I have restored my old jack, thanks to Jack who came up with the idea.

Harbor Freight 2 ton worked for me both times I pulled the engine by myself.

Two tons = 4,000lbs, it will easily handle 900lbs with a 4x safety factor even if you thought the 2 ton was at the breaking limit.

When I had my 6.0 swinging from my HF 2 ton I was physically having to jerk on the hoist to get the steel wheels over some rough areas on my shop floor and the engine was swinging. They are solid.

I found I needed to do a little modifying to the HF 2 ton engine hoist. QC is just cr*p with the Chinese, but overall it got the job done.

Yessir. I added an electric winch to mine similar to Jack’s but couldn’t bring myself to trust it to hold the engine so I just used a couple of clevises on the end bolt to get the arm as close to the pick plate as possible. Two ratchet straps from the lift to each engine mount and used them to adjust the angle.

Picked it up from HB today. Worked fine on the 3.5 L engine from his Acura. Just a warm up for the real thing

Just check the welds before you put any body parts in a place where they might get crushed.
