Tranmission Code
Quick history, I've owned my truck for 5 years. Ever since I bought it my auto trans would kind of slip into OD. It would just slowly go in, maybe rev up a few 100 rpms then hit OD. So for years I limped it by. I would drive without the OD on, then when I was ready for it, I would let off the throttle so there was no load on the engine and let her shift in. Even if I forgot to do this, and it slipped in, I never threw a code, or went into limp mode. Anyways. Fast forward to this year, I blew a tire towing my 2 car gooseneck in the mountains. I had to limp it up steep grades to get to a shop that had a oversized tire (35s) for sale. Needless to say, the trans wasn't happy. It got me home, but reverse and some other gears were pretty rough. I decided to get her replaced.
I'd love a BTS trans or another but 5-6K for a rebuild on a truck I don't drive much was a little steep. I went to a local shop who has great reviews. Said that he builds trans for high HP trucks and my low HP 7.3 would be a breeze. Long story short. about 100 miles in on the fresh build I threw a slip code on the stalk. Brought it in, and he thought maybe the TC went bad, or a solenoid pack went bad. He did another overhaul using a different TC and replaced the solenoid pack (I think that's what it was). After picking it up, I noticed OD was kind of slipping in again like before on a fresh rebuild. Needless to say after about 60 miles on the highway it threw a code. The code came on the highway with no shifting. He is being good about it and making it right, but twice in a row leads me to believe that maybe it's something else. Any suggestions for me, or areas to look at? I drove it on a hurt trans without any codes for years towing all over. Now I can't make it 100 miles driving like a grandma.
Thanks in advance for the help,
Bill R
