Trailer Light Error

Hi, I have a 2020 F350 and a 5th wheel. When the trailer is connected I get a error in the dash when I go to use the right directional. It doesn't happen all the time and after the error pops up the directional will flash very quickly. I tested it and all lights work as this happens. I even replaced the bulbs on the trailer to make sure it wasn't that bulb.

Sometimes it even says Brake/Lamp Fault.

Is this something on the truck or is the trailer having the issue? I didn't have any issues with my previous truck and this trailer.

I tried the in bed plug and the one by the bumper, gives same results.

I don't want to haul truck and trailer to dealer if it is actually the trailer causing the issue. I haven't been able to hook to another truck yet to see if it is just mine causing the issue.

This truck also has the backup assist installed. I have not connected the cable or the yaw sensor yet.

Thanks for any tips or insight you may be able to share.

I had a similar error pop up when pulling my ATV trailer. It was indeed an issue at the light housing. I replaced the light assembly with a new LED version and that resolved the problem.

I would start by tracing the wires from the tongue to the light housing. Maybe a wire has a bad crimp or it got cut. As I recall, mine was a bad ground wire.

Thanks I will definitely check the ground, light housing looked good when I replaced the bulb.

I had a similar problem with my 5er. Short story, it was the main ground wires in the trailer pin box. The nitwit who wired the trailer had SIX ground wires crammed into one wire nut!! At first glance, wires looked fine, but with the slightest jiggle, they would lose continuity and the truck would flash trailer disconnected, lights, no brakes etc. good luck.
