I am going to get the new to me frame blasted and powder coated. Is it worth it to remove the spring and engine brackets that are riveted? The right side engine mount is bolted but the left is also riveted. Are they the same mount for both I-6 and V8 applications?
Removing hot rivets is not fun and somewhat dangerous depending on how caveman you're going. Personally I would not remove them, the bolts you'll replace them with have a minimal but existent chance of backing off, whereas if those rivets were going to shear they would likely have done so by now.
Cut an X in the rivet head, then use an air hammer and chisel to cut the head off, then punch the rivet out.
People have gone through and replaced the rivets with bolts before. The only reason I can think of to necessitate it is corrosion prevention. If you drive on salted roads it may be best to remove brackets to clean up underneath them, or uncover hidden rust damage.
