I have a 1988 7.3 idi that is in a U haul box truck I'm converting to a stealth RV, and I want to make this as reliable as possible. So with that said starting with the engine, I'm doing the 150,000 service. I'm replacing any parts that could be a future problem on the road, so I replaced the glow plugs (motorcraft oem) injectors new, fuel return lines, gow plug relay, air cleaner, oil, and antifreeze, all hoses.
Here is my issue. I was cleaning off the injectors with MAP cleaner, to get rid of residual diesel after getting the air out of the lines, and as I was spraying the injectors the engine RPM went up. this told me there is a vacuum leak around the injectors. So has anyone ever had this or seen it???
The engine now runs strong, and correctly from everything I've read for any issues.
Yes I'm doing everything I can to have many worry free miles of use. Just never worked with a diesel before.
Are you sure you just didn't have some overspray get into the air filter, and the MAP spray just didn't give the incoming air supply a little something extra.
I remember there was a refinery explosion back in 2005 that had witnesses testifying that they saw an idling diesel pickup having unexplained power surges from the small amount of hydrocarbon vapor that was entering the intake. Kind of interesting that the workers couldn't really tell with their noses, but the pickup responded to even the smallest amount of spiked air.
not to mention the intake manifold doesn't seal well to the heads if the valley pan has been re-used a few times, which isn't that important on a NA engine.

I plan to reuse mine on my motor build because it's only a couple years old, however I was able to remove it easily without bending it and will probably use rtv on both sides just to be safe
