I have a 1995 ford F-150 with a 4.9l motor and my knock sensor went out and ford no longer makes the knock sensor for my truck tring to find out if their is an online parts store or if I can bypass it and if I do that would it hurt my motor in the long run any thing would help thank you
I have tried timing up and down still running rich and on this truck since it has injectors if the knock sensor goes out it will make it run like a carbureted engine with the choke pulled half way out

I’ve had my knock sensor disconnected for the past 3 years and 50k miles and the engine runs great.
The knock sensor is probably fine. Have you checked for stored codes?

I have heard this before. Can you explain or point to an explanation as to what exactly causes the rich condition?

I have never experienced or heard of what you are describing.
No nothing was popping up on the dash and it never ran like this be for I have had this truck since 2004
The check engine light does not need to be on for the computer have to fault codes. That is where you need to start looking. Have you pulled the vacuum hose off of the regulator to see if the diaphragm has ruptured? That will cause a rich condition since unmetered fuel is being drawn into the intake manifold.
@lisagoud 's thread from 2005. Where I first heard of the Knock Sensor / Rich Condition. HERE
It is an interesting read, but it's one thread out of hundreds on this forum related to the knock sensor. While I cannot discount the OP stated by installing a knock sensor their issue was resolved, I cast a leery eye until there are more data points. This vintage EEC-IV is not that smart to know if the sensor is there or not.
