So, I have a 2001 excursion 6.8 and I'm looking for an intake. I thought ford never changed the 6.8 in the excursions, but I'm having a hardtime finding an intake for my 2001. I can buy intakes for an 03 through 05. If they are different, what was changed?
My son crossthreaded one of my coil packs. While I was trying to remove the crossthreaded bolt I split the ear for the bolt on the intake. I have my intake removed to pull the engine for another issue, and while I have it off I was going to replace the intake. I found an upper and lower intake for $125 on ebay but it says it is only for 03 through 05. Mine is 01, so I was curious what changed on a 6.8 for excursions.
Ah intake manifold. Buy the OEM one its better quality, Dorman is alright they have integrated gaskets and self tapping screws to hold the accessories and coil packs I've used a couple at work and have hold up , they are also made here in the USA.

I have very low compression on cylinders 3 and 4, and the leak down test failed miserably in about 4 cylinders. Instead of doing just heads I figured I would by a rebuilt 6.8 and install it.
I pulled valve covers off after I removed it and found this on cylinder 5, please can someone explain how this would happen.

The dreaded cam follower failure I believe. Very lucky it didnt wedge a valve down, that will kill an engine.
