My 2020 F-350 CCSB came with the standard length step bars. Thinking about getting a set of the extended length step bars for better access to the bed. Any reasons not to? I like the looks of these and don’t want to go with the auto retracting or any aftermarket versions...
My truck is a CCLB and I wish the boards went all the way to the rear wheel well. They stop short and I’m always standing on the very end of the thing reaching at some weird angle to try and grab what I want. For your CCSB they may run all the way to the wheel but if they don’t I would look for some longer ones. Luverne makes a set that runs full wheel to wheel and I wish I had them instead of the Ford version. Other than not being long enough, they’re fine. I’ve read some complaints here on FTE about the chrome bubbling on them but mine are still good after 2 1/2 years.
Just traded my 2017 F250 with standard length running boards for a 2019 F350 dually. The new truck has the extended boards and I LOVE them! Literally two days with the new truck and I’ve used the extended part multiple times to grab something out of the bed. Looks great on the truck too! Highly recommend.
Do you have the factory chrome with black rubber grippies? If so I wouldn’t invest anything into them, the chrome is peeling and bubbling, many topics on here about it, if your lucky ford will warranty them one time. They did mine, and 12 months is the warranty.
What’s the deal with the vertical shroud at the inside of the stock step bars, as compared to the extended step bars without this shroud? The picture of the extended doesn’t show it. Seems like that would be a good feature to have...
The downside in my opinion (obviously) is the cosmetics. I think trucks look better with boards that only cover the span of the cab. For that reason, I wasn't even considering the extended length boards.
However, after test driving a few that had them, I was completely sold. The added function is great. I use them pretty much any time I have cargo in my bed. On a SB, the boards run right to the wheel wells, as you can see in the pic below. I still like the look of non-extended boards better, but I'd never give up the functionality. I'd also like to try GM's new integrated side bed step.

Stock Extended
This is a great question.
Has anyone added the vertical "Super Duty" shroud to cover up the gap between the extended length running boards and the pinch weld at the bottom of the cab?
I've got the extended running boards on my 2022 CCSB and glad I got them. I'm 6' tall and I can't imagine getting in the cab or reaching in the side of the bed without them because these trucks are tall! I also put Ford's retractable step on the back, and use it every time I get in the bed. To me, form follows function and I'm happy with them. My only complaint is that it's a bit of a pain to detail the chrome in between the angled rubber strips. Can't comment on longevity, but they don't look like cheap running boards.

I can confirm I didn't get the shrouds with my extended running boards, but I haven't looked into adding them. I'd be interested if someone comes up with a part number, because they are intended to improve gas mileage I believe.

The two things I don't like about them, are that the extension is all plastic, not a longer metal step, and for me at least with a long bed, the extension is really made for a short bed, so it cuts off well short of the front of the rear wheel well opening.
And, actually, they are pretty pricey too.

My factory extended running boards are metal. The plastic is just a covering.
