the extension is really made for a short bed, so it cuts off well short of the front of the rear wheel well opening. And, actually, they are pretty pricey too.
For 2022 Crew Cabs, the extended length chrome step running boards, at $740, are only $45 more than the normal length chrome step running boards, at $695.
In cases where the normal length chrome step running boards are included as part of an ultimate package, the package price premium incorporates the cost of the normal length running boards, so while they may be included, they are never "free".
Hence, the extended length remains as a $45 increase in costs, which is a bargain, considering the cost of an aftermarket bed step forward of the rear wheel, similar to what Ford Accessories offers for the F-150.
I prefer the long OEM running boards. They fit perfectly on the crew cab short bed. Makes accessing the front of the bed so much easier from the side of the truck.
Has anyone added the vertical "Super Duty" shroud to cover up the gap between the extended length running boards and the pinch weld at the bottom of the cab?

There is an FTE thread about a guy who made his own. A 4 in, wide strip of aluminum stock, painted black. Came out real nice. I have a friend who is a machinist and builds custom hot rods who is going to help me make a set for mine (once it gets here)
I have the extended boards, they are nice and functional. Wish I could figure out how to get the insert to cover the gap and keep them cleaner that way.

I didn't get them with my 21 F350 Lariat Ultimate and Black Appearance package with the standard running boards. I managed to score one off ebay for $75, new from Ford they're like 350+ a piece... !!! I'm still searching for the other side.
LC3Z16B589AA and LC3Z16B588AA are the numbers I have found for the standard length ones, and I own a LC3Z16B589AA... it's still in the box in my garage, but it seems to be the right part.
I originally was just going to go with the Platform running boards on the XLT I ordered because they were quite a bit less expensive... but, after removing a few options on my truck I happily upgraded to the extended running boards! I personally like that the back ends are black as it will match the truck a bit more, and the aluminum part matches the cab section. But, I priced some of the AMP side steps to add on with the regular (less expensive) Platform running boards, and it would have been a bit more expensive had I gone that route, and I think the extended running board will look way better than the Platform running board with the side steps.

I agree, the extended boards look more integrated to my eyes, and they're just about as handy as front pocket. I also got the fold-up rear bed step from Ford and was pleasantly surprised to see it's made by AMP Research. Use that once and you'll never jump into your bed again.
I have them as well on my truck and really like the functionality they provide. My only gripe with them is that the rear support by the wheel well is quite flimsy compared to the 2 cab supports and I feel it will fail sooner rather than later. I should note that I am a larger than average individual at 6'3" - 300lbs, so there is that

I opted for the built in tailgate step, but I won’t be able to use that when hooked to our camper. So one of those Amp steps may be in our future. I didn’t want to add it to my order though and will just get it aftermarket if I decide I need it later.
