I have a 2002 F-250 XLT Crew Cab and I am looking to change out the shocks, front and rear. I have never done it and in the midst of researching it. I've got the tools just looking for a good shock. I've been reading about Bilstein 5100. I've had Monroes but they are old, last time they were changed was about 7 years ago....How long could it take to replace? Anyone know the bolt size because I think I want to change them out too. The truck has 210K miles on it and doing a bunch of small/medium fixes on it.
Thanks,
PJ
If you change the bolts, I would replace with OEM Ford bolts. However, unless the bolts are damaged, stripped, or heads rounded off I wouldn’t see a need to replace them.
Yes as long as the bolts in good condition I would reuse them. I personally like bilstein 5100s. I’ve tried Monroe, rides soft like a car, crap for towing and too mushy off road for me. Had ranchos they were ok, but seemed to wear out after about 30k. Loved pro comps As an all around tow/dd/OR but they kept blowing a seal and leaking, they sent new ones under warranty but I got tired of changing them. Had bilstein on last truck and loved them, waiting for the fedex man to bring me the 4 corners and a steering stabilizer for next weekend
So went to O'Reily's and trying to match up Bilstein's for my truck. The rears are "B8 5100" part number 24 186025. The fronts are "B8 5100 part number 33-187297. I don't have a lift kit and yet the rears say "for 2 to 4" lift. So my question is can I use the "B8 5100" part number 24 186025 for the front and rear? Will they fit even if I don't have a lift kit installed on the truck?

According to the below link, those are the right part numbers for a stock height '02 F250/F350. Buy them and start wrenching. Youre looking at 8 nuts and bolts total.
I’ve run Bilstein, Rancho, Monroe and a few others, the last time I opted for the KYB MONOMAX shocks. They have been outstanding, excellent ride quality both loaded and empty. The price point was excellent too because the others spend enormous amount on advertising. They’re all good shocks you just have to decide what you want... I tow heavy stock trailers and goosenecks with hay.
It turns out O'Reilly's doesn't stock in their warehouse so they are unavailable. I'll go with the KYB Monomax when the time comes. Thanks for the tip!!
