had a windshield company come out to install front glass. and they couldnt get it installed because the gasket would not seat in the corners - too short .
question ,
on a 79 f150 - is it a sure bet that the windshield gasket w/ chrome from dennis carpenter will fit correctly ? tried one from lmc truck and it will not fit.
looks to be too short . also, are they supposed to put urethane on the gasket before they install ? i have seen where some do that
to prevent water leaks.
I don't think urethane is used on our gasket-retained windows. The stuff I got was a thick black 3M sealant in a caulk tube. O'Reillys had to get it shipped from another store in another city.
This has been covered quite a bit here and I believe the consensus is you need the Precision brand gasket. I and others have used this brand and had success , other brands including DC have failed.
Good information as my windshield gasket is leaking. Is Precision the best for back glass and other weatherstripping? I see they sell most pieces in a kit as well as individually.
I got a seal from DC last year and it fit well but recently there was a post from someone that had a DC seal that was too big. I‘m not an expert but do not recommend using any type of sealer providing the pinch weld is in good shape.
Just installed a precision back gasket, DC front with the small chrome lockstrip. Both worked fine. The DC was not as tight and have to be careful not to stretch it anywhere. I used 3m bedding compound in the glass to gasket. Probably not necessary. These trucks are designed to use no sealant at pinch weld to gasket. When it's used its a cause of rusted out pinch welds. As soon as water gets in anywhere it has no place to get out.

D7TZ-1003110-B .. Windshield Weatherstrip - Use with one piece flexible plastic chrome windshield reveal moulding with a joint clip // Reproduced
1977 F100/350 from serial number O80,001 // 1978/79 F100/350 & Bronco.
Be aware that the moulding has to be inserted into the weatherstrip FIRST .. then the weatherstrip is installed on the glass.
Hey Bill,
thanks for that . they apparently never installed one of these before. they sure didnt install the chrome strip first. When everything else failed they tried to
install it with a cord like the back glass. they finally gave up. hopefully when they get back here they bring the right gasket. i watched a video on precision and they installed the locking strip (on a gm truck ) after the gasket was in.

Most glass shops in todays world do not know how to install weatherstrips that were used with windshield reveal mouldings.
They make the same mistake, attempt to install the moulding(s) after the weatherstrip is installed on the glass. In two words: IM POSSIBLE!
