I want to install a 460 into a truck that had a SBF engine. What I want to know, is , is there any other engine that has frame mounts that would work with a 460. The truck is an 82 F150 and I am having problems finding anything from the 80's with the correct style of frame that had a 460. Thanks for any help.
from waht I have seen, 80- 93 at least, use a similar frame stand (bolt up wise) from the SBF to the BBF , but the actual holes where the engine mount drops in, is different, SBF = 1 hole, BBF = 2 holes, now for the actual frame width, I can't help you with that, I was looking at my dad's 93 F350 4x4 w/ a 460, and I was comparing it to my 83 F100
I have a 460 in an '82 Bronco, which should be about the same frame as your F150. I used F250 mounts to begin with and kept breaking them until I went to L&L Products swap mounts. Never a problem through several engine changes with the L&L mounts.
Thanks. IS the 460 the only engine, or would the mounts for a 351M or 400 work?
The engine came out of a 77 or 78 Mercury Grand Marquis wagon. I know that I need the truck oil pan and the truck engine mounts. I hope I can get the car rad into the truck somehow.
I'm not familiar with 351M or 400 engine mounts. I don't know about the F150, but the oil filter won't clear the crossmember on a Bronco, I use a remote mounted filter. Have you tried the 80-86 F series truck forum? The 460 wasn't available in the 1/2t and it has to be a pretty common swap.
