ok just went out and hooked up the fuel pressure gauge, showing only 28 psi at idle , revved the engine a little and it drops a couple psi?
I think i am going to have see the fuel pump pressure
then maybe unbolt the bed so i can look at the screens, full tank of fuel so not going to attempt dropping the tank then most likely will have to get parts for the hutch/harpoon mod
At one time I had found the note in the Ford Service Manual about minimum operating fuel pressure and posted it here. I want to say it was something like 38 PSI, but cannot be sure.
Although, you should not delay your fixing the low pressure condition as that is NOT a safe pressure to run the vehicle at.
Unless of course your gauge is faulty or method of testing the FP was flawed.

I am observing about that too , Gauge being faulty, I am wondering if I can test it with air pressure?
I’d just go to the hardware or irrigation store and get another one for 4 or 5 bucks rather than screw with it too much. Did you test it from the bowl drain port?

sent you a message I and getting the same readings after installing an inline filter for the future harpoon mod , thinking i have a weak fuel pump at this point
i did also blow about 20 psi back into the tank to hopefully clear the screens, to no avail
question, is the top line or the bottom line going to the fuel bowl the feed?

Bottom port on the left side of this picture is the supply line. Upper is return to the tank.
So were you measuring at the return port? Just do the @SkySkiJason easy fuel bowl drain port pressure gauge.
5/16” hose, any cheap 60-100psi pressure gauge and a couple hose clamps. Hook it to the water drain valve and open the valve to test pressure. Make hose long enough that you can see gauge while driving. (Behind windshield wiper or on door mirror)
The tank screens are more likely a problem than the pump, but clogged screens will eventually take out the pump.
An even simpler test is to run 5/16” ID tubing (cheap vinyl tubing is fine for this) from the water drain discharge line to a container on the ground. Drain filter and then turn key on. You should see a steady stream of fuel about like a water fountain (remember those??) and get about a quart of fuel before pump times out.
Don’t forget about the pressure regulator. After confirming your gauge readings I would start with the regulator for troubleshooting.
But don’t put off doing the Hutch too long as it’s a great mod.
Have a fleet of 7.3. All of them had bad pick up screen and 2 screens inside the sending unit. After replacing them had 65psi. This happens with tanks going bad.
i did that and upgraded the spring in the fuel bowls.
