o2 sensor replacement
O2 sensors are something you can do yourself. First you need to find out which 02 sensor(s) is malfunctioning. There are two "upstream" sensors on the exhaust manifolds (one before each catalytic convertor), and two "downstream" sensors (one after each cat): Ford H02S Locations
The O2 sensors have threads on the end and are screwed into the exhaust manifolds/pipes. Removal requires that you unscrew them using a wrench or special 02 socket. Spray the area where the sensor is threaded into the pipe liberally with penterating oil at least 15 minutes (preferably longer) before taking out old O2 sensors, and then spray them again while unscrewing them. It helps if the pipes are warm, but not hot.
The wire connector (or plug) can be found about 8-20 inches away from the sensor itself. You should unplug the connector before trying to remove the sensor.
You can pick up 02 sensors for your truck at any brand name auto parts store. Here's a pretty good picture of a standard 02 sensor to give you a better idea:
Hope this helps ...good luck!
