I found a place that sells the inline six for $650. They had two sixs and One had 150/150 compression and 40 lbs of oil pressure and the other had 150/175 50lbs oil pressure. Which engine is better, what is good compression on the six.
I dont know about the miles but the one with 150/150 is a 90 and the one with 150/175 is a 93. I don tknow what the numbers mean I just read them off the tag at the yard. What is good compression for a six.
the two diff. readings should be dry and wet (a shot of oil)
the engine with the same readings is better. As far as oil pressure readings go it depends on when the reading was taken.
Cold or hot. I would not put much stock on the oil pressure with out further info.
Agree with MHG on readings, you'd want a motor that's "balanced" (for the lack of a better word). Same with the oil pressure about hot/cold and what weight of oil they're running in it. If it's a heavier oil I'd probably stay away from it, typically one uses a heavy oil when they start losing oil pressure (motor is getting worn out)
Thanx for all your help guys. I did end up getting the engine that was more "balanced" 150/ 150. Na dhte oil pressure was taken when it was cold which is a plus, the shop was great, those guys made me feel good about buying a used engine. Oh, a better word, How about Consistent.
If the first two numbers are dry compression/wet compression, then I would expect the first engine to be a better choice. The higher oil pressure on the second engine is quite possibly the result of blow-by into the crankcase. This explanation would be consistent with the compression readings, which show decreased compression without the squirt of oil to seal the piston/cylinder wall interface. It sounds like you made the right choice.
