vibration

I've noticed lately between 33 mph and 45 mph under acceleration a vibration. I say under acceleration because I think it stops when I take my foot off the pedal. The whole truck does it. Just enough to rattle the coins in the ashtray. I can feel it in the steering wheel. Otherwise the truck drives ok. Past 45mph it smooths out, hwy speeds are fine. Where do you think I should start looking? No noises or other odd behavior.

Engine codes? Possible engine misfire - last time spark plugs and/or coils were changed? Tire/s out of balance. Front end components should be checked for wear.

Most likely a driveshaft related issue. Are the u-joints original? Try removing the driveshaft and greasing the slip joint splines at the front

Check your upper ball joints, lower one's front end, and the hubs. You said it was in the steering wheel as well. Could be a tire as well out of balance or starting to come apart inside. The balance point of the tire could be where the speed of the wheel turning comes close to back in at a certain speed. By chance do you have any dirt build up on the inside rim of one of the tires or is the air pressure in the front off by more than five pounds per side from each other? Look for the simple stuff and move from there.

I didn't have much time this weekend, (Son's wedding) but I did air up the tires and that didn't change anything. Paying more attention, I think the vibrations start around 20mph and really comes on at 33mph. It does go away when I take my foot off the gas, starts again if I touch it, only in that mph range. Also doesn't do it while slowing down, 50-0... No CEL codes. Otherwise runs great, no noises, steers straight, not in 4x4. The issue under load is making me lean towards drive shaft or transmission mount. The whole dash is vibrating not just the steering wheel.

I'll keep on lookin..

Could be a misfire, cracked flex plate, bad U joints, or loose drive shaft bolts.

Just replaced a transmission mount the other day on a truck that the whole thing had broken the metal around the rubber. How they didn't break the trans mount bolts I don't know after they hit a stump with the crossover mount 4x4ing. Now that truck vibrated in the steering wheel as well.

Did just a little bit more snooping. The rear drive shaft has a double joint at the transfer case. So 3 U joints total, all the same part # apparently . Didn't get any movement from the shafts, I was able to push up on the transfer case about an 1/16-1/8" with a slight clank. I engaged the 4x4 on a straight road. It seemed to lesson the vibrations quite a bit. I do have a ball joint press so the U joint fix should be easy.

Best to remove the driveshaft to check. You'll be able to feel brinnelling, tightness or slop as you pivot the joints by hand.

Finally found some time and dropped the rear shaft. The rear joint was bad. I got it swapped out and started looking at the front cardan joint and I noticed it had a ball type joint between the u joints. It looks like it may have had a rubber seal/boot covering it. Since it felt smooth and I really didn't want to mess with it I left it alone. Deal with that another time. The truck rides sooth now. Yay!!

I'd say that joint went just a little past brinelling.

There's no grease fitting, those look like permanently lubed u-joints.
