Calling all guys who have used the American Autowire upgrade. I was trying to decide where the best location for the fuse block should go in the engine bay. I was thinking this location might work well.
I’d rather get it right the first time and I don’t think this will be in the way of anything else.
The area you’ve highlighted seems to be angled, better at least move it to the right where it’s flat.
I got sidetracked by other things happening and didn’t realize others had responded. I guess I need to subscribe to my own threads now to get notifications. So, it does lay flat there, but not sure I can put it there or even on the flat part. I don’t think I can get a drill in there behind the engine.

- I chose to mount it horizontally because you don’t get a lot of flexibility when the wires are mounted to the fuses.
I actually considered that same location, but not sure about it being behind the battery if that would be an issue. Also, not sure what all it may interfere with because I haven’t put in the heater box yet and I know it bolts in that location.
I am also considering mounting on the fender where the voltage regulator was attached, partly because I would not need to drill any more holes. One of the issues for this location, it may be too far from the battery and solenoid, as @ibuzzard noted in his link. My wife just had hip replacement surgery, but when I get a chance, I will call AAW and see if this location is too far away.
I used an American Autowire harness however I didn’t have the fuse block your showing. I will say hindsight being 20/20 I wish I would have run more of my wires under the dash and behind the firewall just to make the engine compartment look cleaner. That’s a project for years down the road. I think tucking them out of the way is one thing but still being able to access at a later time for additional options is also critical. Have you thought about inside the frame rail below the battery?

In the frame rail doesn’t seem like a good location to me. It hides it for sure, but the fuse block is far from weather proof and it would likely catch a lot of crap down there.
I managed to call AAW today and spoke with them. They said I would be okay on the inner fender. After speaking with them, I feel that, yes, it is probably more personal preference. I just don’t think they want an extreme distance for the battery and solenoid, for protection purposes.
