Hello there,
i would like to increase the load capacity of my motorhome. in germany i need documents from the manufacturer for this. did any of you have access to the Ford database. what is maximally possible.
When I query the VIN, I don't get a clear statement.
Many thanks
regards
Marc
I would suggest you check with a Ford Dealership in Germany as anything from a USA dealer would probably not help as the VIN from Foreign vehicles don't work well here .. I had similar problems with my 1990 Jeep XJ as it was made in EU and does not show up on our local dealership computers.
Hello everyone. Loading a vehicle in Germany is not that easy. the Ford dealer in Germany usually cannot and will not help you either. how much do you want to increase the capacity? Greetings from Saxony Anhalt / Germany
hi reinforcement from Germany ;-)
I am currently allowed to load 1633lb (741kg). 661 lb
(300kg) more would be fantastic.
the TÜV (Technical Inspection Agency) wants the manufacturer to approve that the axles and brakes are suitable for a higher payload.
there are also leaf spring sets for more cargo. so the axles would have to withstand more.
Do you know what the axles are? Not sure what options were available for something like that, and it could vary a lot. Maybe post a picture of the door sticker.
Have you weighed it to see where you are right now? Get a weight for the front and rear axle to know how close you are to each ones rating. The sticker lists the GVWR (max weight) as 11,500 lbs/5216 kg. My guess is the RV manufacturer guessed off that what your remaining cargo could be with an average weight of there builds.
However, the axle weights give a higher rating of 12,210 lbs/5537 kg. Ford may have derated due to engine/transmission combo (tow ratings usually deal with this method). Tires also play into the pictures. Increasing to a load range E could bring that up some.
What I found from your axle code of 62 is a Dana axle with 8100 lb rating and 4.10 gear ratio. The springs code U4K, may be the limiting factor as I found one thread saying they may only be rated at 3450 lbs (thats each or 6900 total) which actually gives a GVWR of 11,300 lbs, hmm.
this is how I would proceed: first let the car weigh. best at the next gravel works or scrap yard ... they actually do it for a packet of coffee :-). then we already have a number in mind. then I would look which brakes your truck has and what total mass it was installed on other vehicles ... maybe F450 or something. ... if so, you've almost won. if not, it will be more difficult ... which corner of Germany are you from?
hello Geppi,
i come from near stuttgart.
i will empty the motorhome completely and go to weigh it. this can take a while, however. I'm looking forward to the result. A few things were retrofitted like a motorcycle rack.
now I was on the scales. with bad result. front 1530 kg (3373lb) rear 3060kg (6746lb) and total 4620kg (10185lb). permissible total weight 5216kg. results in a payload of 596kg. very little for 4 People.
the fuel was near empty
