My sister watched mom today and i got a job done i have dreaded to do. I put a full size wire wheel on a had buffer and also used two die grinders with different size wire wheels and cleaned the bottom side of the front fenders then i sprayed them with undercoat. I also sanded the left front fender again and sprayed primer on it until i can finish the body work on it. Next is sanding the right fender then body working it. I wish i had help putting them back on because it's a chore by myself.
I know what you mean about handling those fenders. They defy gravity and are awkward.
When I had a guy paint my F3 fenders, I carefully stored them until I could bolt them on. I tried to do it myself, and the driver's side rolled in a very bizarre way off the front radiator support bracket and did an Olympic diver twist and flip right on the floor. Put scratches right in the most visible area. Back to the body shop it went, with me cursing myself the entire 30-mile trip to his shop.
The shop owner didn't laugh out loud at me. He probably waited until I was gone.
