I have a 99 ranger with the 3.0 engine. I get a rattle noise coming from the engine at idle. Its not a low pitch niose and it does'nt sound like my valve train. Any ideas? I hav'nt done any real troubleshooting yet. I have put a heavier wt oil in but no change.
When you get the rattle, is the AC on? I have a rattle sound at idle that goes away when the AC is off or when i press in the clutch(on the manual transmission). And the rattle only occurs when the engine is warm.
Well, I got under the truck last night. First started- no rattle, but when warmed up you begin to hear it. It is'nt consistant, I thought it was coming from under the truck, the bearings or something internal in the engine, but I'am not so sure now. Also thought it could be loose pellets in one of the three engine converters, but I didn't have someone to control the throtle for me. I have not played with the clutch yet. The A/C was off.
Welcome to FTE BRICKE,
Grabbing at straws here...have you done anything to your truck like have the muffler system done or anything that would be metallically related to a noise like your having or even something that may be deteriorating? Had a new system do this when it got hot, (close tolerance type items)
