my 97 has 350000 miles on it only had it for little over 2 months and is my daily driver.. i put a new icp sensor, ipr valve, and ebp sensor and tube but now it starts rite away but then it dies have to hold it at high idle for awhile but after that it runs with out dying but let it set awhile and it does it again anyone explain this for me
CPS, I just went thru this same ordeal, In addition to all those things you changed I had same symptoms Cleaned my IPR re oringed it, several ICP swaps, plus I had put a new ford CPS in it several months ago when i first got it. I swapped to my spare ford CPS and shes up and running now. Guess im gonna buy several more spare sensors. Good luck
Motorcraft F4TZ-12K073-C camshaft position sender as listed on package. Be advised though there are some that are different colors that are supposedly better then others, Im color blind (to add to my woes of troubleshooting) But my GF said it was "pretty purple" if that helps. I recently had put in another Ford CPS that was black and had a bigger magnet that only had less then a hour of run time on it that was the culprit to my most recent issue of stalling/then no power in drive. Id get a spare I have been buying mine from diesel-oring.com reasonable prices.
My hard learned lesson is dont use aftermarket china made sensors on the PSD...Good luck and let us know.
thank you all very much sorry for the dumb question but my first diesel and just want to make sure on sensors because they have so many thanks again everyone
It was autozone parts... duralast.. it didn't have the power it does now.. before it would run just had no getty up.. but I can hold the idle up and u can hear it. It's like purrs and then goes back to sounding like a diesel.. really don't know how to explain it.. but then it runs fine after about 10 minutes of high idle
Box store sensors do not play well with these trucks. Countless experiences of folks having the kind of problems you are experiencing when using box store stuff. Spend the coin and get them from either Riffraff or DieselORings. Both are solid vendors with dependable OEM parts
second, thoroughly check the IPR wiring for exposed or damaged wires
I am going to change the solenoid out on the ipr and see what happens... this morning I went out and started the stroke and it fired right up no ruff idle way smoother let it run for 10 to 15 minutes then got in it put it In gear and died.. I turned the idle **** up and went to around 1100 rpm but it would almost die.. then catch and jump back up and so it again did that for about 3 mins. When it would start falling it would have dead pedal. So I pick the rpms up higher and the sound of some injectors would dampen and then come back then it would catch and stay running after high rpm... thoughts
