Every Ford I've owned in the last 35 years has had basically the same lousy HVAC systems. They were basically the same three **** systems that have fan speed temperature and vent settings. The thing that disappoints me the most there is only one so called recirculation setting and that is on Max A/C. We've had a lot of smoke in our area from the wildfires nearby and driving with the vents closed is a must. I can still smell smoke in either of the two Fords I still own even with MAX A/C on. I see no need to even use A/C right now. Why can't Ford design a system that has a separate button to close off outside air from entering the interior. Every other make I own or have owned in the last 40 years has had something like a separate button for recirculation. I really can't drive my Excursion nor my Crown Vic right now. 'm glad I bought a Toyota Tundra earlier this year. It has a really good HVAC system and there's no noticeable smoke entering the cab.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here but this is really **** poor design by Ford.
I looked at the climate control panel and it has a button. So you can use it with the other settings? It was an option on some Fords but I'm sure it's not a plug and play system. I looked through the shop manuals for my Crown Vic a few years ago. It looks like a whole different set up aside from the control panel and would be a major job to swap.
I wonder if anyone has figured out how to override the factory switches and add a button to force the recirculation door open/closed. I'd be interested in doing that. There are times I spend hours on dirt roads and I'd prefer not to intentionally suck in unneeded dust.
