Another 4.30 thread
IMO, I get a 4:30 in an underpowered 6.2L. They need all of the help they can get. When an engine struggles to get in the 300-375 range of torque, there aren’t many choices except to increase gearing and making the best of it...
I know.. I also own a 2015 2500SD with a gasser/4:10 gears. Just pathetic..
There are also a select few who have never owned a 10 speed, but give advice on the 10 speed... The 10 speed is the game changer and allows options the 6 speed can’t..better control over RPM in any gear..
With the higher ratio, you can have the highway pulling power of the lower gears by locking out 10th. Same overall ratio of the low gear option is now available .. BUT, when not towing, the ability of efficiency is there with 10th. The 7.3L offers a good improvement in gas, and coupled with a 10 speed can offer the best of both worlds, so I would suggest not marooning yourself with guzzle gears.
In a diesel where induction is forced and three times the torque available, an even higher gear challenges the engine to produce more boost. I chose 3:31 gears on my order, and towing 10k is like towing nothing at all.
My last gasser was '96 Suburban with the 7.4 and 3.73 rear end IIRC. Now that could have used the 4.10 when towing.
