New member here and new to Ford gas engines, I have a 1994 Ford F-250 with 7.5l and e40d transmission. The truck is surging real bad at idle but driving at Hwy speeds it runs pretty smooth. Here is a list of things I have done with no help on fixing the issue fuel pressure regulator, idle air control valve, o2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, map sensor, distributed cap, rotor, plug wires, coil, and plugs.
checked codes and I am getting code 82& 67. I have also went through and replaced all the broke vacum lines. More information is the truck does not have 1st gear or I think 4th feels like just 2 gears. Transmission fluid is clean and does not smell bad. Also while idling it smell like it is running very rich. Any help on getting the truck running right would be greatly appreciated.
Does the fuel pressure stay solid after the truck has been off for a while? You may have a stuck or leaking injector. Pull the plugs and see if one is different than the rest.

Thanks for the reply, I will Check those today, I am also going to go through all the vacuum lines to make sure I didn’t miss any
update, pulled some plugs and 4or more where Fowler so I will get a fuel pressure gauge and do a leak down test but it looks like I have a few leaky injectors based off the plugs, thanks for the help I will update when I do more testing
The 82 & 67 codes are not valid.
Your truck will have three digit codes.
I was not sure about the 2 digit or 3 digit codes, I wrote down the codes in 3 digit form first and I got code 678 & 782, when I tried looking those codes up I could not find anything and that’s why I went to the 2 digit format, also the long pause happens after the 2 digits not after the 3rd. I will run the codes again today.
i ran out and checked codes again and I am still only getting 67 & 82, here is a video I took
When you jump the solenoid make sure it is out of gear and park brake set.
You can do it either way but I think I would try key off first.
What ever wire is on the S lug needs power with key to start.

So is the solenoid on the starter and nothing on the fender like the old trucks?
If there is a solenoid on the fender then what triggers it to send power to the starter?
I don't have a newer truck so I was just guessing it had one on the fender.

On my 94 F250 460, E4OD, this is how I check for codes. These are located on driver side fender, back by the hinge spring.
I am not sure on 2 digit codes, but, my Haynes manual says:
67- Neutral drive switch circuit open.
82- Speed control vent circuit failure.
Haynes shows thes to be read only on KOEO.
Try again, but, make sure radio,, and heater/AC are OFF.
Failing that, disconnect Negative battery terminal for 5 to 10 minutes, to reset. Then try again.

I was thinking "I" lug for some reason. Sorry about that.
They now have a relay on the fender and a solenoid on the starter.
My 94 has the relay on passenger fener. You can jump it by using screwdriver between the 2 big lugs on the relay. Or get a remote starter switch and connect that to the 2 big lugs.

this how I have been checking the codes, but the radio has been on and same with ac/heat. I will reset computer tomorrow and re check codes
My solenoid is on the fender, the truck starts with no issues just having running issues. I believe it is caused from a leaky injector but I will do more testing tomorrow.

Here to help. Let us know what codes you get. If needed. Leave jumper in, turn key off, then back on read codes again so you know for sure.
