I’ve got a 2008 srw F350. I need to know how to convert it to a dually. I believe the dually is a different axle. Looking for the best of all worlds: safe, proper and cheap. Can I simply put dually wheels on it?

It *CAN* be done by simply doing what you said, but it is kind of moot because that does nothing to increase the capacity of the rear axle.
To do it correctly would be to swap in a DANA 80 reap axle from a dually With the extra weight rating, get the spacers for the front, then the proper wheels for the dually.
Might be just as cheap to find one and trade.
