48-56 Options

I know this may have been addressed before but I was just wondering if anybody had any information on ordering or buying options for 48-56. Like the 48-50 when they offered painted or stainless grill and 53-56 different options inside cab and color combinations and stuff.

You will want to get a hold of an Accessories Catalogue from a particular year. They sell reproductions. Ebay you can find originals.

This is what the one side looks like for 1952 Trucks. These would be the official Ford accessories, probably none of which Ford made. Then there were common after-market accessories providers as well which would be period-correct and many times of equal or better design and quality than the Ford accessories.

for 53-56 the interior metal surfaces was painted body color, except add ons like steering column, clutch and brake pedals, gear shift lever, etc were painted black . In 55 you did have, not really a choice, it depended on your body color, but the seat upholstery was keyed to body color: red seat material for red, blue and black trucks. And a green seat material for green and yellow trucks. This was for the newly named Custom Cab trucks. The Standard Cab trucks had a much plainer seat like mine below.

here is the paint and trim differences between the Standard Cabs and the Deluxe Cabs from the 1954 Salesman's Handbook. 53, 55, and 56 would have been similar except in 55 they changed Deluxe Cab to Custom Cab. There are a lot of comfort additions added to the Deluxe/Custom Cab trucks.

Here is page showing the interior differences between the Standard Cab and the Deluxe Cab in 54.

Thanks for the replies guys, I think it is neat to see all the options that were offered. Does anybody have any info on 48-52 that is broken down like the regular vs custom cab? Or was there such a thing before 53. And also the accessories that were in those catalogs i guess would be dealer installed as opposed to factory installed?

1951 was the introduction of the deluxe cab Ford trucks. Beginning that year, Ford changed the name of their "Million Dollar Cab", so called because of the million dollars Ford professed to invest in creating the all new 1948 F-series cab, to " 5-Star Cab", then added the "5 Star Extra Cab" to denote the deluxe version.

I think the 5 star and 5 star extra cabs were only for 51-52? Is that correct. I dont think the 48-50 had designations like that, but correct me if Im wrong. Although they touted many of the same "features" in their specifications and valuations like the seat and the million-dollar cab, but they were doing that even back in the thirties. But interesting you can see the marked uptick in the truck specific marketing really from 53 onwards there seems to be a lot more focus on the marketing and features of trucks specifically.

Yes, and in case you missed it I touched on that in my post, above. 1948 gave us the Bonus Built trucks moniker, along with the Million Dollar Cab.

Yeper

I saw that afterwards. Those spiral bound pages are interesting i’ve never seen that format or version before .,,I like the little Tiny man pointing out all the different features. He looks to be about the same tiny guy they used to show driving the trucks in the cabin to look bigger!

Yeah he was a busy man even had to take a smoke break. LOL. Just think the million dollar cab and then 5 years later in 53 they widened it quiet a bit. We have one 49 with a s10 seat and my 55 has a full size dodge seat in it. Quiet a bit bigger cab.
