My 93 Ranger 3.0 Has a strange intermittent problem, sometimes when i step on the clutch and then take my foot off the pedal comes up but the clutch does not engage most of the time i will push and release several times it will then act normal other times it will not engage,A couple of days ago i had to have it towed home and by the time it got here the clutch worked perfectly! any help would be greatly appreciated.
Have you checked the fluid level in the reservoir. I had a '93 and the slave cylinder started leaking. At first it was intermitant clutch working. I took it in and the bottom of the cover/ housing had a pool of fluid. New clutch time
fluid iis about 3/4 fulll and no visible leaks anywhere in the system,I pulled the rubber plug from the housing and can look in at the slave cylinder ,everything is dry in there thanks for your suggestion .
Another thought would be that one of the cylinders has failed and is not pushing fluid. The easiest thing maybe to replace the master cyl and see if the problem goes away
John
Thanks for your input. The fluid pressure is pushing the slave cylinder and the clutch is disengaging but when i release the pedal comes up but the release bearing remains in the disengaged position but only sometimes.I did not get to work on it at all as i had some other stuff i HAD to do. Thanks for your interest !!!
....The fluid pressure is pushing the slave cylinder and the clutch is disengaging but when i release the pedal comes up but the release bearing remains in the disengaged position but only sometimes......
Logically, the cause will be either a hydraulic problem, or a mechanical one, such as the throwout bearing somehow binding on the shift it slides on. Either way, the tranny needs to be to both identify the cause and fix it.
yes for sure its either hydraulic or mechanical ,but so far i have not been able to duplicate the problem.I have the truck on jack stands high enough to get under it,i can look up and see the release bearing so i have been running the engine and pushing and releasing the clutch pedal more times than i want to count and it is all functioning perfectly so i have decided to get it out of the garage and drive and see if it will malfunction again.if and when it returns i wii l try to find and continue this thread. So THANKS for all the suggestions
