Clutch life

I have '92 F150 with the M5OD. The truck has 128000 plus miles on the original clutch. I do not feel any clutch pressure until the pedal is about half way to the floor. It still shifts fine and there is no slippage. Is this a sign/symptom of a clutch on the way out?

Thanks for any input you can give me.

I have nearly 150,000 on mine with the original clutch and it feels the same since I bought it with 70,000. I also do a lot of hauling and driving in traffic. Same deal, the I only feel pressure when the pedal is half way out.

It seems this is common with maybe this transmission or just Ford trucks in general, I have actually read a couple of posts explaining this exact "problem," and people want to bleed the clutch to try to fix it. I haven't heard if that works, though I don't think it does. Mine does the same with an almost new clutch, maybe about 10k on it, so no worries there.

You mean...when you're letting up on the clutch to start moving, you don't feel it grab until 1/2 way through the pedals arc of movement? If I got that right, thats what it's suppose to feel like. It's a hydraulic clutch and you won't really know it's gone until it goes. You'll feel the clutch being akward and have a hard time shifting.

Thanks for this information. I'm looking at purchasing a '92 F150 4w and when I test drove it, the major thing I noticed that seemed possibly problematic was that the clutch didn't engage (connect with the drive train) until it was almost all the way to the top of its arc.
It has 95000 miles on the original clutch and according to the owner has not been abused.
From this thread it appears as though that's a normal condition.

Yeah, it's not like the older mechanical clutches that you can adjust. On a mechanical clutch, a high engagement usually is a clue that the clutch is worn but not always.

Another test is to drive at 25mph and put it in 5th gear, rev to 2500 rpm and dump the clutch. If the rpms come down right away than you're clutch is grabbing nicely and is working correctly. If it's kind of sloppy and there is some slippage, than you're got an issue.

I have a 92 f350, and when I am shifting from 2nd to 3rd and sometimes 4th to OD, it almost grinds. I have to push in on the clutch quite a bit (almost to the floor) and when I let off, it seems like it slips a little. I have 145K on the truck, and just bought it. Any suggestions on keeping it from kind of grinding? Or is my clutch almost going?
