Hello all. I have searched but not found what I'm looking for so hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.
Just traded a 2016 F250 CC, 4x4 FX4 Lariat Ultimate 6.2L gas for a used 2019 F250 CC 4x4 FX4 Lariat (not Ultimate), 6.7L Powerstroke with only the tailgate backup camera.
Is it possible to add the OEM CHMSL with camera and have it work through the SYNC 3? Would it require a different SYNC 3 module? This truck does not have any camera button above the display nor anything on the screen for cameras.
I have looked at the etrailer.com add-on which activates via the #1 upfitter switch, but would really like to have the OEM.
I am very disappointed with my factory CHMSL camera. The camera itself is so cheap and the image grainy that you really cannot exactly tell when you are backed up over the gooseneck ball. Im still getting in and out of the truck a few times to line up right.
Also, sure would be nice if I could activate the camera while driving to see into the bed. Nope. Not without Forescan tinkering with your trucks brain can you do that I guess.
If I had to choose, I'd probably go the aftermarket route if I had to do it again..........but that doesnt answer your question...

As I understand it you have to be wired for the 360 camera set up or so I have been told...does make sense.

Thats interesting, I find the camera in the tailgate to be really clear, is there a different camera in the CHMSL?
I ordered a 2020 F350 with the 5th wheel/gooseneck prep and gooseneck hitch installed, myself, and one of the things that I regret not putting on my order is the CHMSL camera, to assist with hitching up to gooseneck trailers... and I was curious about whether it could be added, but after hearing that the quality is not all that great, and that it is pretty much impossible to add after the fact, I think I will just get me one of the I-Ball HD magnetic backup cameras and stick it on neck of the gooseneck to line up the ball. We used to rig one up to the ball of an old Winnebago to keep an eye on the toad while we were driving down the road, so I know that it will work for lining up the hitch.
The camera in the CHMSL is terrible, its like 480p.
I wonder if the cameras are similar with the same connections. Could possibly just buy an OEM tailgate camera and swap it out with the factory CHMSL camera?

Agree with that plus the damn line on mine is off to one side of the ball. Second time I used it I looked like some idiot that has never hooked a trailer up before. A painted line in your bed from the ball to the rear would help 10x more than the camera. I run a pair of third party wireless cameras attached to two 2" magnets with an 8" monitor that I can mount about anywhere that works a lot better. Once hooked up I place one on back of trailer and the other either on the front cross over or maybe on what I am hauling to keep an eye on the chains. Of course with AL bed it is harder to mount them with a magnet if you don't have a tool box. My old flatbed I mounted one directly even with the ball on the bed rail front to back and the other on the tool box.
I had a dealer show me a truck and it had the cargo camera. The truck they sold me didn’t have it. The dealer apologized for the mix up and said they would make it right. After a few days they called and advised they could not add the camera Because of the wiring. They did order one from etrailer and installed it for free. Added it to the #1 aux switch. Works perfectly. It is a better camera than the factory one in my buddy 2019.
Mine has the 360 camera set up and I feel that for 2019 the picture clarity is pretty crappy. My wife’s 2007 Tahoe has the same pic quality. Ford you could have done better.
