Transmission not engaging
When starting the truck and putting in to drive, the truck will initially start moving and allow up to around 1000 RPM, at which point it will rev up to 1500-2000 RPM and surge forward without my foot being on the gas. Occasionally, this will trigger the yellow wrench indicator on the dash which I took to a shop to diagnose, but they told me that there were no codes thrown (?). Another indication of this issue is the fuel economy. Usually upon shifting to drive and accelerating, the green bar will appear as an indication that all is normal. However, during this issue, the green bar never appears. I'm not too sure what that indicates, but I believe it may be important in diagnosing this problem.
Initially, I assumed I was having a misfire issue and replaced the spark plugs first with an off-brand iridium replacement from Autozone, but as I was replacing them, I noticed oil in the spark well plugs and decided to take it in. The shop replaced the plugs with the recommended Motocraft plugs, found and replaced a shoddy jb weld job on a valve cover that was causing the entrance of oil into the spark plug well, and sent me on my way.
Unfortunately, this did more to exacerbate the issue as as they were working, they completely disconnected a vacuum hose to my turbo, causing a funky air sucking sound and increased occurrence of the "misfire". After reconnecting the hose, my throttle response was through the roof good, the "misfire" went away, and I assumed that I had found the culprit, however the issue reared its head shortly thereafter.
Some specific things I have noticed:
the issue is less likely to occur in the middle of the day with the truck warm and more likely to occur in the morning when its cool or if I do not allow the truck to warm up for quite a while
there is a very loud squealing/squeaking noise when depressing the brake pedal while the problem is occurring. I assumed that the brake pads just needed changing (which they very well may need to be), but when the truck is driving normally, the brake squeak is very low
after warming up and getting working normally, the truck runs fine with no power loss, no misfiring, no surges
when starting the truck, if I allow it to sit and warm up, there is a point where I can start to feel the engine's vibration through my seat slightly. At this point, I know it will be okay to drive, but up until then, there seems to be no "connection"
the transmission temperature gauge is pegged low during this problem and then slowly raises to normal as it begins to operate normally
Video of issue:
I'm not sure if this means that I am covered under this however.
I also checked the trans fluid and this was my discovery.
I'm hoping that this doesn't mean that my transmission is damaged and more money will have to be sunk into this.
Should I go ahead and drain and replace the fluid and see if that takes care of it?
Update: replaced the throttle body, reset the KAM, and tried the throttle response trick. Still doing the same thing to me.
I'm thinking it is transmission related. When the temperature of the trans reaches a certain point, the truck starts running properly, but will still give me the issue intermittently.
