I’ve got an 02 Excursion 6.8 with about 108k miles. I’m getting a creak/squeak coming from the dash above the Instrument cluster near the windshield. It sounds like styrofoam rubbing together. It mostly occurs over bumps or any less than perfect road conditions. It’s driving me mad.
I’ve attempted to stuff some various rubber spacers under there, microfiber cloth, and some large rubber hose to try to isolate the dash from the defrost vent area. Nothing has worked so far.
I have not had the time to look on my newly acquired '01, but I have considerable noise coming from my dash area also. Worse than yours, perhaps that is what it morphs into with an additional 100k miles. I will let you know what I find when I have the time to look for it.
I pulled the dash panel off today while I was prepping to do an Android install. I couldn’t find any source of the noise, but while it was off I stuffed a couple of microfiber cloths in between the duct area for the defrost. At this point it seems to be about 90% resolved. Still getting some noise but it’s drastically better.
I’m not sure if the stuffing solved it or not. While I was pulling the stereo I found tons of old wiring from what must have been an old DVD player install. Included in that wiring I found an FM modulator and noise suppressor just loosely wired in back there and swinging around.
Mine was making noise where the dash connects at the windshield base. There are fasteners hidden by plastic covers and mine were squeaking terribly. You have to add some absorbing material between those fasteners and frame.
