Read a bunch of posts about this on here already but hoping someone can give me some advice of how to get the dealer to figure this out or replace the fuel pump which it sounds to be most likely.
I started keeping a log in my truck of when it happens with the temp, fuel percentage, and how long it sat since I ran it last. The truck seems like it has a mind of its own when it is hot out and may do it after only 3 hours or 8. When you go to crank the truck over it seems like it takes 5 plus seconds to start and sputters at 500 rpm sounding flooded and then gets to idle at 1000-1200. It is just so aggravating that they couldn't duplicate after having it for two days.
If anyone has any suggestions on what to do or how to approach the dealer I'd love to hear your thoughts. Any other threads that would help are also greatly appreciated.
Maybe try a new dealer. I have the same issue as you describe and took my truck in for an oil change. Told dealer I had a hot start issue and they called me 4 hours later to come pick up. When I asked about the hot start issue they told me the fuel pump needed to be replaced and was on back order. I'm still waiting for it to come in and that's been over a month ago.
See if you can get them to check the fuel pressure. Even if they can’t duplicate the problem, the truck may still bleed enough pressure to be out of spec.
I guess if you have the time to kill drive it to the dealer and let it sit then have one of the mechanics there when you go to start it.
Intermittent issues are hard to get diagnosed. I had a clunk in the front brake for the better part of 6 months before it did it enough that I could take it to the dealer and duplicate it for them.
Mine has done this for the last 30k miles. Had it at the dealership twice and they all but called me a liar. Someone on here posted part numbers awhile back if i can find them ill just replace the pump myself.
Can anyone look up the TSB on it so he could take it to the dealer?
I don't know how people look those up so I can't help. But on my other vehicle forum people are nice enough to post the TSB so others can let the dealers know. I had to do this for 3 items on my car after they said 'Could Not Duplicate'
Any dealer that plays dumb on this issue is either a moron or straight up liar. The long crank on the 6.2 is so well known it's ridiculous. I'm still waiting for a fuel pump for my 2019, it's been over a month. Good news is it always starts eventually, never left me stranded.
In my case on a 2017 I finally figured out the pattern. First start in the morning was always good but if I went out to lunch it would stagger on startup when I left work for the evening. I ended up driving it to the dealership, parking it and letting it set. I would come back and get the service manager out to witness the start. He witnessed it sort of stagger once but I had to keep going to get it to fail in front his mechanic, which I finally did. Once they saw it they did the diagnostics and ultimately replaced the pump.
I pushed so hard because I bought the truck from this dealer as a CPO and the warranty was just about out and I was not going to pay $800 to replace the pump on my dime. They had to witness it to get it under warranty.
I have attached the diagnostics that they had on the ticket where they replaced the pump. Hope this helps.
Wizardsr
how did they figure it out or how did you convince them?
Didn't take any extra effort on my end. I dropped it off, they agreed it's a well known issue, and ordered the pump. I imagined they checked fuel pressure to verify, as the issue is a check valve in the pump, not the actual pump itself.
Well it happened again today but it was a first morning start up at 50 degrees....Ive had 9 stalled starts since last month with it differing with tank fullness and mostly hot temperatures.
Went to the dealer again this week, had the truck for three days. “Could not duplicate issue “ was the response. Bring it back when it gets worse. I asked them if they did a leak down test and was told the computer should throw a code if anything is ever wrong. Tired of fighting with the dealer 🤬
