Diesel disposal

I drained a sample of fuel from the water separator and it appears to be water free. What do you guys do with the sample? If it looks clean do you just dump it back in the tank?

I live in a rural area , so I use it to start my burn pile . Most here , I think , would not recommend pouring it back in the tank . Good that it doesn't have any water in it though !!

I put it in the waste oil. If you think it’s bad just taking the sample, just wait until you have to change the fuel filters!

Didn't know that but I'm not sure why it'd be an issue. In the summer, I bring it back to Auto Zone and they didn't say anything about it. I brought in my own jug and needed it back so I'm sure he could smell it when he dumped it. In the winter, there's a small local garage that takes it to burn. I'll have to ask him if he cares, I'd guess no though for him. Do you know why it's an issue to put in the waste oil?

OK I won't dump it back in the tank. Maybe dump it in my dad's diesel barrel. If I burned garbage I'd use it to start that up but I live in town.

Most cement contractors use a mix of diesel/oil to spray forms with so the cement doesn't stick to the forms. If you know a cement man, just pass it on to him.

I threw it in the tank on the old man’s 3010 Deere. Even if there was a little water in it, that old tractor wouldn’t care.

I thought of that too but my waste oil goes to a local guy that burns it in an oil burner for heat. Not sure he'd want diesel in there.

Your average diesel motor oil dump has between 0.5 and 2% diesel fuel in the oil, just by the nature of regens, blowby, etc.

Dumping half a quart of diesel in a several hundred gallon vat of used motor oil is nothing. Besides that, even a substantial blend of diesel and used oil would process just fine in an oil burner.
