Window crank removal?

This will go down as the dumbest thread I’ve ever started.

I removed the windows on my 48 F1 so I can rebuild or replace the regulator, and replace the glass. I can’t get the window crank or latch handle off. In the 60s I used a tool that pushed off a snap ring, but I don’t see it.

the service manual just says remove the handle, but not how.

hammer and chisel? Dynamite? C4?

If it is the same as my 51 the chrome bezel behind the handle is spring loaded and a portion of it will move exposing a small dowel pin. Lightly hammer that out and the handle will come off.

Ideally, it’s a two man op, one pushes the escutcheon back to reveal the pin, the other uses a small punch to push it through.

They are a ton of fun on a 69 yr. old truck in the salvage yard when it is 28 deg. & snowing .

This is the basic method for the 48-50 models as well. The dowel pin should not need too much persuasion. I've found a putty knife or a wide blade screwdriver useful to hold the escutcheon ring off the door panel while locating the pin.

Or 110 deg. in the cab and 80% humidity.

Speaking of locating the pin, I need one. I have not found it listed in any catalogs yet.

I'm certain that at least one of mine went missing. My solution was a piece of rod stock from a hardware store. Seems like it was 3/8 diameter.

Well damn...I can’t find the pin. I’m pulling the Escutcheon away from the door as far as I can and I can just see the end of the crank.
