So we just recently finished building my dads truck and we are having shifting issues. It was a slow build of probably over 10 years. I can jump in the truck and shift up and down through the gears no problem, then out of the blue for no reason ur stuck in neutral. I come up to a stop sign or something and bump it in neutral and thats it. It won't go into any gear, if ya let off the clutch or have it pushed in there is nothing. Its not grinding or anything its just neutral, shifter moves around fine but just won't go into any gear. Turn the truck off and makes no difference. So ya sit there and just keep trying and trying then all of the sudden it goes into a gear and is fine till who knows when. Anyone have any suggestions? I'm guessing its gotta be something in top of the trans?
what transmission do you have? Four wheel drive or two wheel drive?
You mean the shifter will physically move into each gear, but when you let off the clutch, nothing happens? how long since the trans was installed? any chance the throwout bearing is binding somehow and not letting the clutch engage?
Its a 4x4 trans, and no it won't go into gear at all. It shifts fine then just out of the blue for no reason it won't. In theory its like there is something blocking every gear, the stick moves around fine but just wont go into any gear.
