1982 f100

so, let me rehash some info because I've been picking some brains in another thread about the truck I got and the rear end and tranny. So, to make a long story short, its 2wd, originally had a v6 automatic, now it has a 351w and a np435 transmission. I have a chance to get a 1973 mercury marquis brougham with a 429. Would it be worth the purchase? And would it fit? I know if it did it wouldn't be a direct swap, I'm just curious if it would be worth my time? Thanks guys.

No replacement for displacement. This company sell motor mounts and other parts to let it drop in place. https://www.landlproducts.com/

Not sure what shape your 351W is in. Seems like it's had some work.

As far as a '73 Mercury 429, as OEM it was clanging around near the bottom of the barrel performance wise for a car 429. Compression had be dropped, power was down, smog controls were up. Without different heads, and a little other work, if your 351w is running right, it would probably run away from the 429, or do no worse than staying with it.

Your transmission will not bolt to the 429 so if you were to use the 429 you would also need the transmission that's bolted to it also.

The transmission will work, but the OP needs a bell from a 460* to bolt it up. He will also need the correct flywheel and clutch and maybe starter.

*'73 to '79 used mechanical clutch linkage, so that would be the place to look. These trucks also had T19s in them. 1st gear isn't a granny in those, so OP would have more of the "4 speed" feel, and still have a truck transmission if he wanted.

You are right don't know what I was thinking?
Think I was thinking auto?
The 80's trucks also came with T18's as that is what my 81 F100 had till I replaced it with a NP435 and the Advance Adaptors over drive.

ZF or M5OD are integral bell transmissions so that plays into the "will it fit" calculation when operating the Way-back machine for these trucks.

429, to which a ZF from a 460 will bolt up.
