Im swapping out the auto for a ZF. Previous owner used same ECU from the stock 5.0 and sent it to a tuner shop to change the firing order and air/fuel settings so it will run the 460. I talked to that same shop and I was told I do not need to do anything different with the ECU to make it run properly with a manual transmission. Maybe I might need to send it out to turn off the “auto function” of the ECU? This information seems contradictory to being told I’ll need to locate a unicorn ECU from a stock MAF 460/ZF5.
What do I need to know about the ECU/wires/sensors to do a successful ZF swap? I would like to keep everything OEM if possible. I doubt I’ll find an ECU for a MAF 460/ZF5. It would be better, I think, if this current ECU will work.
So it’ll perform as should except I’ll have a check engine light on? I can live with that but not for long. Currently, my check engine light is off and I like it that way. If it is on while I ignore it, I won’t know when a new issue comes up. If I were to fix it so that the check engine light goes off awhile after the swap, what would I need to do? I’m convinced I can start the swap any time and drive it afterwards, but I would like to clear the codes at some point, maybe soon, maybe in a year or two.
