Hey guys new to The Forum and this is my first post besides my intro. I have a 87 Ford F-150 with 302 V8 it is four-wheel drive. The problem I'm having is about a month ago I changed out the cigarette lighter for the power outlet now I'm not sure if it's is what caused the problem or not as I've had it taken it everything is hooked up correctly I mean it's not too hard LOL but roughly about two weeks ago my truck started not starting after driving it for just a few minutes but after I would set for a second it would start right up until the other morning when I went out and tried to start it but the battery was completely dead. I then jumped the truck off and it started right up and I left it running for about 15 to 20 minutes before I cut it off when I shut it off it would not start back up like battery was completely dead so I went and purchased a new battery but just to be safe had the alternator checked and it's burnt up and come to find out it's a second gen alternator which I've been hearing nightmares about so my question is what is my best option for the new alternator should I buy a 3rd generation what amperage would be the best I do have LED lights for the tail lights and plan on installing either LED headlights or HID headlights I also have a newer aftermarket stereo with amp and speakers. I'm just wanting to make sure that I get an alternator with another amperage and one that's not going to burn up on me the second gens do. Can someone please help, any suggestions would be helpful as to my best option for my alternator upgrade/replacement. Thanks guys I will await reply.

Some time ago I made the upgrade from 2g to 3g on my 94'. I believe I just purchased an alternator for a 94' Mustang V6. It was 130 amp which was pleanty enough to run electric fans as well as my amp sub system, and off road lights. just order a pigtail for the regulator same aplication, and don't forget a higher capacity fusible link. One of the bolt holes will need to be drilled out from 3/8" to 7/16". THe swap is fairly straight forward. Had the parts in same day at O'Reilly
