Premium sound system amp???
I have just purchased from e-bay a AM-FM-CD Ford radio for my 1996 F-150. I understand it to be from a premium sound system and I will need the amp and wiring to run it. Has anyone undertaken this task? Do I have to by a Ford amp and wiring or is there something aftermarket that will work. Any direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

if you can get the plug for the radio. you can turn the outputs into rca's and run any amp you would like. just make sure that someone who know what they are doing does it. finding the plus and wire info will be the hardest job.

The radio arrived in the mail and the box it came in looked like it fell off the mail truck. Long story short, it is damaged and I am glad I paid the extra $5 for shipping insurance. I also did a lot of research and as much as I like the stock radio, when I get my money back I will go find something aftermarket. Most say and I now agree that it is more trouble than it is worth to covert over.

that is what i would do. most after market head have go power and much better sound quality than factory. let me know what kind of radio you are looking for and i can give you some ideas and how much to pay.

Really no more than $150. I am not into huge watts per channel just as quality of sound. I will probably upgrade my 4 speakers also. I have a reg cab 96 F-150. My radio faceplate is slightly larger than the standard Ford Din and is flat not rounded edges. I can send pics if you don't know what I mean about the face plate.
