I agree with the guy saying to use one manufacturers paint all the way through. I’ve had good success with PPG paints in the past but used Eastwood urethane this time around for cost savings and it worked out well. Epoxy primer over bare metal, then build with 2k primer, then topcoat and clear if you want more durability than single stage. Most of the work will be in the prep. If you put in the time with the metal work and filler then block sand the heck out of it you will get better results. Good luck!!!
I have a bit more paint work to do but its almost there. I painted it in my driveway over the course of several days at dawn. Less bugs and wind if painting before 8am in my area.

beautiful job Rick. Where in NJ are you? I’m in Somerset county.
i looked at Eastwood but I didn’t see where they have Ford colors. I’m not a purest but I like the patina of the interior so I don’t want to paint it. That means I need to match the original color.
Burnett said it all. We can always fix it. I have learned a lot (read spent $'s) doing stuff myself. But why Meadow Green ?
Abe just stirring it up. I think my truck was original meadow green.

because the interior is great as it is, and it’s meadow green. Plus I kinda like it.

that makes sense on the color. They have some that match up with certain Ford and gm paints of the ‘60’s but otherwise you have to see if they have something close. In your case I would look into the ppg paints. I got lucky and the buttercream paint at Eastwood was pretty close to the original yellow on my truck.
Thx folks. There’s not a lot of local auto paint stores around, but there’s a Sherwin-Williams not too far away. I also located a paint chart that give the color number for Meadow Green. I’ll give them a visit next week.
I want to take care of the drivability issues before I tackle paint. I believe that once I rebuild the carb I’ll be good to go. Rule #1 of the shade tree mechanic...whatever time allotted to do a job, triple it.
49er and shoo both trucks look great. I’m encouraged.
a friend of mine in town is doing a 55 Chevy pickup and I believe he used sherwin Williams base/clear. Turned out really nice. I can get the details from him if it’s of interest.

Im in Morris county in florham park.
I can’t seem to locate a ppg dealer. They list home cheepo as a dealer but that’s about it.

it is of interest, but before you bug your friend let me talk to the local retailer. Thx.
Just a note to bear in mind...any paint product that is catalyzed becomes inert to anything that is applied on top of it. If you are using a 2K primer then nothing that you apply over the top of it will interact with it. Base coat is base coat, it really doesn't care what brand of urethane clear coat that is applied over it. This "stay with the same manufacturer" has become an antiquated rule. Back in the day when NO paint was catalyzed you had to be careful what you sprayed over what...paints in those days actually dissolved the layer beneath it...not so today.
your exactly right , these lovely trucks allow us to learn new skills everyday
they are so forgiving it’s incredible
smiles per gallon not miles per gallon
Smiles per gallon...I love it.
the other day I drove to the local auto parts store (support the small guy). As I was walking in the staff was running out the door to look at my truck. Even with masks on I could see the smiles.
Hi Bob, Read some of the builds that others have shared here to get ideas as where to start and watch their project progress. Another web site that has lots of information is Hotrodders.com. They have a section called exterior - body that has lots of painting and body work tips. I have been using PPG for the past 45 years and like their paint products. It also helps that I can purchase their products locally. The salesmen at their stores have lots of knowledge about their paint and other material that you will be needing. So it is helpful to get to know them for the information that you can learn from them while you are shopping there. Some people mix products from different manufacturers and it works for them. I have found a product that works for me so I stick with it.

thx Ken...unfortunately I can’t find a PPG retailer near in central NJ. Their website lists Homedepot as a dealer but of course they’re not.
