4.9 engine to rebuild or not to

I have a 78 model 4.9 engine there is a website that is selling a longblock for 81 to 96. My vehicle I have is a carb motor. My question is there much difference between older model motors and the new? I want to keep it carbed just not sure if it can work on my 77 model truck. Thanks for the input.

You can put a carb on about anything as long as the intake fits. yes the 81 up will take a carb.

Personally I'd prefer to rebuild your engine rather than hope some 3rd world country worker making 13 cents an hour putting chinese parts in your reman was having a good day. you may not save any money but you know what you have when it's done.

Thank you for the information I might just do that then. I've never rebuilt a engine but no reason not to learn

With a good machine shop and a little coaching almost anyone can do it.

The 240/300 is a marvelously easy engine to work on. As stated, a good machine shop who does quality work will make it simple. Take your time and research what you want out of the motor. Fordsix.com is a good resource for 300 builds and ideas about what you want to do.
