94 F150 4x4 fresh rebuilt 302 bored 30 over. Has AFR 185 heads with 2.02 valves, Trick Flow stage 1 cam, 1.72 rockers. Stock EFI intake/fuel injection system. EGR has been deleted. Truck does not consistently want to idle. When it does idle, every couple of seconds the engine sounds different by listening to the exhaust. It will sound descent then all of of sudden it will rev, then it will drop the rpms and seem like its misfiring, then back to sounding descent, the drop the rpms so low it almost or does die. I can get it to idle better when I disconnect the SPOUT connector but it idles much higher. I have tried the timing at 10 degrees all the way to 16 degrees. While driving the truck there is no engine light coming on. This is my 1st time with efi. What would make this thing idle so wierd and how do I fix it lol. Thanks in advance for any help.
Your other thread mentions 36# injectors, are you using those? If so, pull them and put in stock ones for a start. If you arent tuning yet they will be your best bet for idle and drivability.
I have seen guys try to get by on the factory tune by trying to trick the maf and run a colder t stat to richen things up and bigger injectors It ended up washing down the cylinders and diluting the oil... truck burned to the ground by the way.
2 you are probably beyond the factory limits for the truck computer with your upgrades, possibly going to a 351 maf computer will crutch this issue for a bit. But, you really need a tuner or to go to a PimPx system for complete custom tuning.

I am currently using the stock injectors, had planned on upgrading intake with the 36# but things got a little tight so just so I could get the truck driving again I threw the stock intake on it. I don't really want to put a band aid on the problem because I eventually will have an aftermarket intake with the 36# injectors. So I guess my next option is to tune the computer. I have looked into it a little and keep running into the Quarter Horse and Tweecer. Now you have mentioned PimPx...have you used any, what do you or others prefer. Im not too shabby on a computer and learn new programs fairly well, though I'm sure there will be a learning curve with all of them.
Speed Density or Mass Air, Trick Flow recommends Mass Air and a tune.with that cam, and power band is right where stock ECM gives up with 19lb injectors.
If I have to get a trans controller with PimPx, then I will convert it to carb and just buy a quick shift trans controller or go with one of the other tuners mentioned.
check your TPS closed volts (0.6-0.99) if it is in that range leave it, get truck to operating temp, turn off, remove negative battery cable for 10-15 minutes, maybe IAC will re-learn, idle with the new cam. If your going with 36#, later on, you will need a tune, thats 400-500hp range
