Code reader for driveability issues/Low -Rpm Mis-fire
Whats up Everyone. Ok I have a 07 F.150 that I bought back in 2102. The truck now has 163K. I Had a tranny done at Mccafferty Ford back in 2016-(Lost reverse). Best thing i did was take it to Ford, New trans not rebuild or remanufacture , watched them installing it. Came with 3 year unlimited mileage warranty. It didnt come cheap All in was $3,460.00 but if shifts great. I really haven't had any other major issues with this truck. I change that Oil every 3k miles religiously, Use Motorcraft Oil and the top of the line fram filter. Ive changed the plugs 3 times since I've had the truck. Ive changed the Coil boots twice because of Load misses (Hwy in OD trying to cimb hill or other soft accelerations) . Its started again about a month ago. I had ALL orignal coils on the truck and figured this would be a good time to replace them and the boots. So I ordered a set of "Standard Ignition Coil" and proceeded to replace them all. I drove the truck and thought I had it, But it back again. So, here is my question..2 part question. I have a Decent OBD Code reader , but it show me any drivability issues. Just code and ABS code. So, which is the better code reader that will help me dial in on this Miss-fire. The second questions is, Has any one had this same issue (Load Miss-fire) Low RPM Miss in O/D nad found that the Plugs were the culprit ? As Always, I appreciate any feedback, and hope everyone is safe out there..
Generally we use torque pro $5 app/ android phone /cheap amazon reader . It helps that most on here use the same so they can deal with it. It will show you per cly raw computer counts towards setting a code under test results . Any old android will work doesn't need to be activated . I changed my injectors around 140k ,I think thats enough duty . Not a fan of changing cops from oem, I have one duralast guaranteed from a road trip break down ,wish i had tired to clean the oem one but in the sun on a 500 mile trip its tough .
Plugs must be torqued 25 to 28 foot pounds, loose plugs a real problem blowby will destroy plugs and boots, acts like a cutting torch . all connectors must lock on ,set of 8 from amazon -solder in . Plugs must be done hospital clean, easy on that dielectric grease . Easy on antisieze , once blowby happens just throw that plug/boot/spring out ,if you see black coming past the threads its a sign of blowby . many people think they can feel the right torque and don't double self check anyway .
Miss fires show up at low rpm under load ,climbing a hill etc . Torque converter locked ,high gear ,its lugging -common symptom.
I don't clean injectors but use techron now and then .Dripping injectors are death to an engine it can hydro it .
