I caught a fence post with my drivers side manually tel. mirror while backing up. It folded the mirror back the wrong way toward the front of the truck. The mirror itself is OK and folded right back into position. It did crack the black plastic trim plate that covers the mirror hinges etc. I don't seem to be able to figure out if the trim just comes off somehow and can be replaced. Anyone here know or had to replace this piece before?
If not, I can just wait until my next oil change and have the dealer look at it, but I really trust the opinions and experience of the people here more than I do my dealer!
Kinda makes you feel retarded, doesn't it? I did the same thing several months ago, but the culprit was a tree, not a fence post.
I didn't really think that replacing just the trim was an option and did not check in to it. Instead, I bought some super glue (gel type) and managed to do a pretty good repair on the two spots where the trim cracked. It's held up great, even through the car wash. Unfortunately, the tree did not fare as well. I cut it down!
I did the same thing with the garage door. Wasn't so lucky. Broke the mirror itself. Just shy of $150 at the dealer. Don't see any way to replace the trim. Better to use super glue or leave it off unless it bothers you $150 worth.
